A新ym"me暗ry (?), n. [Gr. ?; α priv. + ? symmetry.]

1. Want of symmetry, or proportion between the parts of a thing, esp. want of bilateral symmetry.

2. (Math.) Incommensurability. [Obs.] Barrow.

As"ymp暗ote (?; 215), n. [Gr. ? not falling together; α priv. + ? to fall together; ? with + ? to fall. Cf. Symptom.] (Math.) A line which approaches nearer to some curve than assignable distance, but, though infinitely extended, would never meet it. Asymptotes may be straight lines or curves. A rectilinear asymptote may be conceived as a tangent to the curve at an infinite distance.

A新yn"ar暗ete` (?), a. [Gr. ? not united, disconnected; α priv. + ? with + ? to fasten to.] Disconnected; not fitted or adjusted.
